Week 14a- Print Ready Design-Layout Terms

Font (serif & sans-serif)
Serif-serif or sans serif(without serifs). The most common seriftypeface is Times Roman. A common sans seriftypeface is Helvetica.

margin
Sanserif-In typography, a sans-serif, sans serif, gothic, sanserif or simply sans typeface is one that does not have the small projecting features called "serifs" at the end of strokes. The term comes from the French wordsans, meaning "without".

Guide (illustrator guides) -A thing that helps someone to form an opinion or make a decision or calculation

Bleed -  Bleed is the part of the image or background color that runs off the edge of the printing area of a document before the document is trimmed down to size. The purpose of the bleed is so that there is margin for paper shift in the printer and room for design inconsistencies.

CMYK- The CMYK color model (process color, four color) is a subtractive color model, used in color printing, and is also used to describe the printing process itself.CMYK refers to the four inks used in some color printing: cyan, magenta, yellow, and key (black).


Image resolution- Image resolution is the detail an image holds. The term applies to raster digital images, film images, and other types of images. Higher resolutionmeans more image detail. Image resolution can be measured in various ways.


Proof Copy   - publishing a copy of ( a book , story etc) made from trial impressions made from  composed ype , or print-outs ( from a laser printer, etc ) for  the correction of errors.


Artboard - an on screen design surface in a drawing application.



Registration Mark - Marks made to a surface to help with alignment . a registration mark is commonly used  with printing to help ensure the print is aligned properly.

Definition

RULE OF THIRDS :a powerful compositional technique for making photos more interesting and dynamic. It's also perhaps one of the most well known. This article uses examples to demonstrate why the rule works, when it's ok to break the rule, and how to make the most of it to improve your photography.

A device that focuses a camera or other peice of equipment automatically . Automatic focusing.
